Original post: 1001 Whiskies You Must Try Before You Die

I've had my eye on the book '1001 Whiskies You Must Try before You Die' on Amazon. It is edited by Dominic Roskrow. It has been listed as 'Not yet released' for some considerable time and does not show a release date (as is the norm). I was wondering if anyone had this book or had any idea of when the book will be available or was aware of any problems which may be delaying it becoming available? Cheers.

On Amazon there's a paperback version called "1001 Whiskies You Must Try Before You Die" http://www.amazon.co.uk/1001-Whiskies-You-Must-Before/dp/184403710X and a hardcover version called "1001 Whiskies You Must Taste Before You Die" http://www.amazon.com/1001-Whiskies-Must-Taste-Before/dp/0789324873 But it seems to be same book. THe release dat of the latter is idd May 15, so I'm guessing it's the same for the paperback version? And if not, just buy the hardcover. :D

I'm looking forward to the release of this book, and have a copy reserved to ship as soon as it becomes available on Amazon. I just wish the title was more original. Seems like ripoff of Ian Buxton's "101 Whiskies to Try Before You Die".

It will be interesting to see what is included in that book. I belong to a Whisky tasting club where we taste 3 fancy Whiskies a month (over $200 each) and I must admit to having been consistently underwhelmed. Not that they were bad, but they were usually no better (in my opinion) than Whiskies costing 1/3 to 1/2 of that price.

I'm one of the authors, although with only a few entries to fill in some gaps (if mine haven't been cut). I think the May date is accurate - it's been April or May this year since it was commissioned last year.

As for the title - the 1001 X to Y Before You Die series has been around for a while and if anything Ian's (excellent) book is a bit of a thieving of the series title. I'm even doing a computer game podcast where we're playing through the games from 1001 Games to Play Before You Die and working out whether they deserve to be in the book...

From what I've been able to tell it's a rather large range of whiskies, from the everyday to the shockingly expensive and will of course annoy peope for not including their favourite drams while having ones that they hate :)

@olivier, sometimes you pay extra for fancy Whiskies and other bottles for less than 2/3 or even 1/2 of the price offer similar quality. If you like a certain flavourprofile and the complexity of older (age AND bottleage) Whisky you have to pay. I think you can´t compare younger excellent Whisky with old excellent Whisky - both can deliver equally strong but be totally different in their characters - like comparing a Bentley Sedan to a Ferrari, both outstanding cars but very different approach. I agree that you don´t have to pay three figures to get brilliant Whisky with intrinsic quality but if you want the complexity and challange your senses with "out of the box" Whisky you sometimes have to pay a little extra.
